It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of Dragica Karlovich, who passed away in her sleep, surrounded by the comfort of a life well lived and a family who cherished her deeply.
Dragica was the beloved wife of the late Janko Karlovich, with whom she shared a devoted and enduring marriage built on strength, partnership, and unwavering love. Together they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and resilience.
She is predeceased by her parents. She has a loving sister in Croatia Marija Todorovic, her brother in law Ciro Todorovic, her niece Marijana Todorovic and nephew Bruno Todorovic.
Born in Croatia, Dragica made the courageous journey to Canada in pursuit of a better future. As an immigrant, she carried with her the values of hard work, determination, and deep family loyalty. Through perseverance and sacrifice, she built a beautiful life in her adopted country, never forgetting her roots and always honoring the traditions that shaped her.
She was a devoted and loving mother to John Karlovich and Nancy Karlovich. Her greatest pride was her family, and she poured her heart into raising her children with kindness, strength, and integrity. She warmly welcomed her daughter-in-law Mira Karlovich and her son-in-law Basim Elshahidi as her own, embracing them with the same unconditional love.
Dragica’s joy multiplied when she became a grandmother. She adored her grandchildren — Max Karlovich, Thomas Karlovich, and Adam Elshahidi — and nothing lit up her face more than their laughter. Whether through stories, home-cooked meals, gentle advice, or playful teasing, she created memories with them that will be treasured forever.
Those who knew Dragica will remember her incredible work ethic and the sacrifices she made without complaint. She worked hard her entire life, always putting her family first. Yet beyond her strength was her vibrant spirit — she had a wonderful sense of humour, quick wit, and a spark in her eyes that could brighten any room. Even in difficult times, she found ways to laugh and help others do the same.
Her home was a place of comfort and welcome, where no one left hungry and everyone left feeling loved. She taught by example — how to persevere, how to give generously, and how to stand strong while keeping a tender heart.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace knowing she passed gently and now rests reunited with her beloved Janko . Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Dragica will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. May her memory be eternal.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Croatian Martyrs Parish.
