It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Godfrey T. Fiorini at his home on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Dr. Fiorini had an exceptional life. He was born in Malta and graduated from the Royal University of Malta with a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a medical degree before immigrating to Canada in 1956. After completing an internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, he opened his own medical practice as a family physician at Landsdowne and Bloor, until he moved the practice to Dufferin and St. Clair. Over 56 years, he built a huge family practice with an emphasis in obstetrics and delivered thousands of babies. From the time he began his practice, he was on staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, where he received recognition for 30 years of dedicated service in 1993. As a member of the Ontario Medical Association and The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, he was the recipient of the award for long time service as a physician. Dr. Fiorini was also a life member of The College of Family Physicians of Canada and honoured with a life time achievement award for 50 years of family practice. Possessing an avid interest in medical research, he also found time to publish a number of articles in The Canadian Family Physician and Annuals of Biomechanical Engineering.
He was a dedicated and compassionate physician whose commitment to helping his patients was extraordinary. He was also a devoted and loving family man who proudly adored his wife, children and grandchildren. All who knew him loved his passion for tennis and his enthusiasm for life. The space his loss leaves in the hearts of his patients, family and friends will never be filled.
Dr. Godfrey T. Fiorini is survived by a large extended loving family, especially his wife, Rita. He will be greatly missed by their three children Maureen, Cynthia and Lloyd and by his beloved grandchildren, Rachel and her husband Frank Pollacco, Ryan, Brendan and Madeline Galea, Julia and James Rich and Jackson and Elisabeth Fiorini. Dr. Fiorini was sadly predeceased by his eldest son, Geoffrey, in 1996. He was also the dearly loved brother of Cecil Fiorini and Eileen Zammit-Maempel.
Please join the family at Turner and Porter Funeral Home located at 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississsauga, on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 7-9p.m. and Thursday February 4, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Clare Roman Catholic Church on Friday February 5, 2016 at 10: 30 a.m., located at 1118 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto (one block east of Dufferin). Everyone is welcome to attend a luncheon reception following Mass at the Boulevard Club on Lakeshore Boulevard, in Toronto. Dr. Fiorini will be cremated in accordance with his wishes.
Dr. Fiorini was an amazing man who touched the lives of all who knew him.
