It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Gerald Allen Boyko on April 26, 2015, after a long and brave battle with cancer. "Jerry" was the beloved husband of Mariann, a loving Dad to Megan Rovinelli and Craig Boyko, a dear father-in-law of Rory, and a proud and cherished Papa to Chloe and William. Jerry is also survived by his loving mother, Anne, and dear brother, Ed.

Dr. Boyko received his undergraduate dental degree from the University of Toronto in 1972. After graduation, he practiced general dentistry in a small community in northwestern Ontario, Sioux Lookout. He began his surgical residency in 1974 at the Toronto General and affiliated hospitals. After completion of his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and anaesthesia, Dr. Boyko received a Medical Research Council fellowship from the University of Toronto for on-going scientific research, and received his Master of Science degree from the School of Graduate Studies. In 1979, Dr. Boyko established the first “Credit Valley Oral Surgery” clinic at the Glen Erin Medical Centre in Mississauga, and later opened three more clinics in Mississauga, Oakville, and Milton. Over the years, Dr. Boyko has been a clinical instructor at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto; Department Chief at the Credit Valley Hospital; and Division Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, at the Credit Valley Hospital.

A huge fan of the game, Jerry spent his "down time" at his second home, Credit Valley Golf and Country Club. A dedicated member for over 34 years, Jerry was also a Club Captain and a Member of the Board. To keep his game fresh, Jerry would challenge himself on new courses throughout the globe: Ireland, Scotland, Jamaica, and several States in the US. Some of his proudest golf accomplishments included a low handicap of four, three hole-in-ones, and walking the course at Augusta National, home of the Masters. In the off-season, Jerry could be found skiing the slopes of Holimont in Ellicottville, NY or travelling abroad with Mariann to many exotic places, such as Peru, Japan, China, Europe, the Galapagos Islands, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa to name a few.

Jerry will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and by the many lives that he touched. Jerry was truly a wonderful man, simply one of a kind.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the hospitals which provided Jerry with exemplary care: the Credit Valley Hospital, Cancer Services or the Juravinski Cancer Centre.
https://www.trilliumgiving.ca/waystogive_memory
https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/memoriam.aspxTributeType=Memoriam&EventID=168558&LangPref=en-CA&Referrer=http://hamiltonhealth.ca/jhccf-main/

A Memorial Service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at the Credit Valley Golf & Country Club, 2500 Old Carriage Road, Mississauga on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 6:30 p.m.
