In Celebration of

Dr. Charles Crompton

November 9, 1923 -  April 20, 2016

Charles Crompton, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on April 20th after a long and happy life. The second son of Dr. Charles and Harriet Crompton, he was predeceased by his brothers, Donald and Robert, and by his beloved canine companions, Tucker and Beau. He is survived by the love of his life, Norine (nee Gardiner) with whom he shared 65 years of mutual adoration. Charles lives on through his four children: Ann (Paul King ex), Ruth (Jochem Klostermann), Scott (Lorraine Vella Crompton ex), and Judith (Holden Chadwick) who loved and respected him. He was a devoted “Papa” to Joanna King (Noel Mullins), Lauren and Natalie Klostermann (Addison Veres), Samantha (Jim Turner), Charles and Sarah Crompton, Jenna and Ellen Chadwick and great-grandfather to Charles and McKenzie Turner. Charles was educated at Whitney Public School, North Toronto Collegiate and the University of Toronto. He served in the RCAF. He was an anaesthetist at the Toronto Western Hospital for 40 years where he earned the admiration and affection of colleagues and patients for his skill and unfailing courtesy to all. He was a lover of golf (on TV), good food, fine wine, a clean car and a well-kept lawn. Always a gentleman and a gentle man, a master of the non sequitur and the comically deadpan turn of phrase, he lived his life according to his principles of hard work, good manners and respect for others. The family wishes to extend their thanks to CCAC and DVA for their support which allowed our father to remain comfortably at home. A special thanks to caregivers Samuel De Chavez, Shiarry Baduria and especially Maria Cristina Fernandez, whose excellent care extended Charles’ life and quality of life. A visitation for family and friends will take place at Turner and Porter, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Tuesday, April 26th from 4-7 p.m. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, April 27th at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation (www.tgwhf.ca) in memory of Dr. Charles Crompton.

As one of the Gardiner historians , i recall years ago family get togethers in Mt. Forest and the odd family reunion and Gardiner Family Album 1992..... and " Dr. Charles " to me was that accomplished, charming , debonair man that married by dad's beautiful younger sister " Aunt Norine ".

On behalf of my wife Jennifer who is visiting our grandchildren in Vancouver BC and me who will be in Montreal this week.... and on behalf of our own immediate family Jane, David and Peter and their families.... i wish to express our condolences to all the Crompton family .

I believe " Dr. Charles " knew and lived the truth in the following .... ' the highest love of all finds its fulfillment not in what it keeps but in what it gives . " - Fr. Andrew SDc : seven words from the Cross "

I was sorry to read today of Dr. Crompton's passing. It is difficult to lose a parent but wonderful to understand that your dad not only led a good and long life, but his compassion made a difference to his patients. While at Western twice for relatively minor surgeries when I was a teenager, he took time from a hectic schedule to stop and visit - a very kind and appreciated gesture.

David and I moved to Ottawa in 2014, so I will not be able to attend th

Dear Mrs Crompton, Ann, Ruth, Scott and Judith.

I am sorry for your loss. I have very found memories of Dr. Crompton. Friend to my parents, Ken and Helen and also to me when I was in for surgery at the Western in 1978. Charles was not just their to "put me out" but visited my room on many occasions to say HI and let me know he was thinking of me. What a first class gentleman!!

Love,

Michael
