In Celebration of

Douglas ( Doug ) Leslie Winkley

December 28, 1930 -  May 13, 2020

Passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 13, 2020, at the age of 89.
Born in Montreal, Quebec to George and Louisa Winkley shortly after they immigrated to Canada, Doug was a proud father and grandfather who loved being a family man and all that went with it. He loved to build things and was most proud of the Etobicoke house in which he lived with his wife of forty years, Doreen and where they raised their family. He enjoyed spending time at their Belmont Lake cottage and built a trailer that the family used to explore North America. Later in life, Doug took up golf and curling. He enjoyed bicycling immensely and explored Toronto’s bike trails, keeping fit and active well into his senior years. In his later years, he travelled in Europe and took a train trip across Canada, visiting Pier 21 where he found documents of his parents’ arrival in Canada.
Doug was predeceased by his wife Doreen, to whom he was devoted. Together they raised their son Peter and their daughter Robin to be strong, caring members of the community. His passing will be grieved by Peter and his wife Dawn and by Robin and her spouse Catherine Hayhoe. He was a proud grandfather to Peter’s children Caitlyn, Alan, and Cara and loved the time he spent with them. They will miss their Grampa terribly.
Doug was predeceased by his sister, Doris, and brother, George, and their spouses. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews Linda Runham, Bill Runham, Rick Winkley, David Winkley, and Steven Winkley, along with their families.
The family plans a private burial and will hold a Celebration of Life gathering at a later date.
