Peacefully, at home, with his family by his side, on October 10, 2024, at the age of 88. Son of Margaret Mary McGuckin and Nicholas Barrett. Adored father of Anne Marie (Timothy), Stephen (Andrea) and Kathryn (Mark). Beloved husband of Anne for 62 years. Much loved grandfather to Kathleen, Michael, Graeme, Anne Marie, Nicholas, Andrew and Charlotte.
Dominic was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1936 and grew up in a family of ten children. His father was a hardworking man from Belmullet, Ireland who passed his love of Irish history and music to Dominic. Despite growing up during difficult times, Dominic fondly remembered his childhood and the great times spent with his siblings and his dog Joke. Dominic especially adored his mother and cherished her memories his whole life.
As a young man, Dominic served in the Royal Air Force and subsequently worked for Rolls Royce Aircraft. Later in Canada, Dominic worked in management positions for the manufacturing industry and proudly ended his career in the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.
On March 3, 1962, Dominic married the love of his life, Anne Currie. In 1973, they moved with their three young children to Toronto, Ontario to start a new life. Dominic and his family thrived in Canada though he never forgot his hometown or Scotland.
There are many things that made Dominic very special to so many of us - his endearing Glaswegian accent, wit, love of history, football, and Irish music, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and knew that the secret to a good life is to find happiness in the day-to-day.
A private family Mass will take place to celebrate his life.
