In Celebration of

Derek Bartlett

August 16, 1939 - December 3, 2024

Derek Bartlett, 85 passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024. A devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Derek lived a rich and fulfilling life defined by passion, perseverance and love.

Derek was very close and deeply committed to his family. Born in 1939, son to Albert Earl Bartlett and Eunice Bartlett in Shawinigan, Quebec.
A loving husband to Margaret Bartlett for 54 years, a wonderful and doting father to the late Tyler Christopher Bartlett (1974-2007), Cindy (Marie Sandra Cynthia)Bartlett, (Frank Hunnisett) and Shannon Bartlett (Tony McCabe). A beloved grandfather to Carter Bartlett Hunnisett and Evan Derek Hunnisett.

Derek is also survived by his sister Linda Marion Thompson and her children Kimberly Lyn Rose Hartlan and Michael Ryan Thompson.


A dedicated student with a keen interest in geology, Derek graduated from the University of New Brunswick with Bachelors in geology in addition to completing several postgraduate courses in economic geology and sedimentology.

In addition to his professional achievements, Derek was passionate about physical fitness and remained dedicated to staying active throughout his life. His discipline and determination inspired those around him.


Derek’s legacy will be remembered by all who knew him - his sense of adventure, his tireless dedication to his work, and the love he gave freely to his family and friends. Our family simply cannot express the magnitude of sadness we feel in losing our hero and such an extraordinary man.


A memorial service to honour Derek’s life will be held at a later date.
