Dear Cathy, Evelyn joins me in sending sincere condolences to you, Jennie, Brian and Keith. For me , he was a dear friend, superb musician and a prince of an accompanist.
A musical tale - Long ago in a service at Rideau Park United in Ottawa, our lead soprano, Rhoda Pendelton Baxter, and I were singing a duet from a J.S. Bach Cantata, when the organ stopped in the middle of an organ interlude. (The electronic instrument was one that had seen better days). Our peripheral vision told us that Dennis at the organ was scrambling to find a panic button. After what seemed to us to be a very long period of time (certainly too many heavy heart beats), Dennis found the solution and continued with the organ interlude and the rest of the duet. Because Rhoda and I hadn't moved a muscle, nobody realised there had been a problem.
It certainly scared us at the time, but we often shared a laugh together over it in later years. The incident helped the church to decide that a new organ was needed, and Dennis was active in starting and leading a major project to instal a fine replacement organ.
I met Dennis many years ago , as we were both members of the Toronto Centre of the Royal Canadian College of Organists ( RCCO) We would attend the Centre activities here in Toronto and the annual RCCO Conventions in other cities. Dennis also did a stint on the Toronto Centre Executive.
Ever since the birth of his granddaughter Hazel , we shared the joke that she was named after me.
My deepest condolences to Cathy and the rest of the family.
May Dennis rest in peace.
Our deepest sympathy to Cathy and family.
My sincere condolences.
Sincere condolences and much love to Jennie, Cathy, Hazel and the rest of the family. Dennis was always so warm and witty and I have wonderful memories of him entertaining us on the piano at gatherings. He will be missed.
