David de Carvalho Garcia, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 90 on September 29, 2025.
Born on October 28, 1934, in Lavacolhos, Portugal, David was the son of José Frade Garcia, and Salete Rainha de Carvalho. After his time in the military, David worked as a Police Officer in Lisbon for ten years before making the decision to move to Canada to start a new life with his wife and child.
David was a man of strength, and unwavering principles. He devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and helping his family and friends. David was known for his kindness, and his deep love of fado music. A poet at heart, he will be remembered for his storytelling which he shared with us until the very end.
David is survived by his wife Adilia, of 67 years and his two children, Maria Carmen, Joe and wife Nancy. Over the years their family was blessed with six grandchildren—Andrew and wife Lucy, Mathew and wife Tina, Robert, Nicole, David and Micheal. He was also a doting great grandfather to Aria, Lyla, William and Faith.
Visitation for David will be Sunday, October 5, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Turner & Porter, 2357 Bloor Street West.
Chapel Service at Turner & Porter, Yorke, will be held on Monday, October 6, at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Park Lawn Cemetery, 2845 Bloor Street West, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre or The Sick Kid's Foundation in David's memory.
