In Celebration of

Daniel Zakaib

April 1, 1925 -  May 17, 2018

Daniel passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital on Thursday, May 17, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis and his siblings Denise and George. He is remembered by his sons Gary (Cathy) and Geoffrey (Martha), his grandchildren Jason, Sarah, Andrea and Bradley, and siblings Edmund and Gloria.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was widely admired as an intelligent, kind and young-at-heart man always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Daniel was born in Montreal and graduated from Concordia with a degree in chemistry. He met Phyllis at a summer camp, and they were married in 1948. He worked for many years in the oil and gas industry in Montreal and Oakville.

Following the passing of his wife, he moved to Claridges Condos and quickly became an integral part of the community, making many dear friends and becoming the president of the condo board.

Many relaxing days were spent at the family cottage in Haliburton, where Dan was also very involved in the arts scene, as he became a highly regarded art appraiser in his retirement.

Friends can call at Turner and Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Daniel’s name to North York General Hospital (nyghfoundation.ca). Other donation options and online condolences may be made at www.turnerporter.ca

My heartfelt sympathy to the Zakaib family at this difficult time. I had the honour and pleasure of working with Daniel on the Claridges' Board of Directors for the past two and a half years learning much from Daniel's eleven years experience. Daniel was a true gentleman, indeed a well respected gentle, kind and helpful man. His exemplary dedication to helping others in need and his attention to day to day issues of the work of the Board and plans for future staffing of Claridges Board, helped to make this an outstanding condo community that seeks to help make its residents happy. Daniel will be very sorely missed.
Sincerely,
Ray Shaver

We are so very sad to learn of Daniel's passing. We met him many years ago here in Haliburton. He sold us paintings, appraised our work and guided us in the art world. We attended auctions in Toronto with him and enjoyed meals together.
He was a delightfully odd and charming man and we feel privileged to have known him.
We're very sorry for your loss and we'll remember him well.
