In Celebration of

Chris Vaughan

December 14, 1959 -  October 16, 2025

Edward James Christopher “Chris” Vaughan passed away peacefully at home on October 16th, 2025, at the age of 65.

Chris was the eldest of three children of Alfred and Rosemary Vaughan. Although born and raised in Toronto, he had a deep appreciation for Canada’s natural beauty and a lifelong love of the outdoors. He spent many years working in forestry in Kapuskasing before moving to the Parry Sound area, where he started his own general contracting business. Chris had a particular fondness for Canadiana and Canadian history — especially stories of the Great Lakes and their shipwrecks. Up north in the Georgian Bay area was where he felt most at home, whether fishing on Healey Lake or working on the cabin at the Mactier property he shared with his father.

Chris loved to work with his hands. Whether building with wood, fixing something that needed fixing, or painting, he found great satisfaction in creating and improving things. In his later years, painting became a very important part of his life - a quiet pursuit that brought him comfort and joy. Many of his works were landscapes of Healey Lake and “Camp Alfred” in Mactier, the places he held most dear.

Although he faced some struggles during his life, Chris was proud to have embraced 6 years of sobriety at the time of his passing. This milestone reflected his strength and determination to live his life to the fullest.

Chris is survived by his daughter Caitlin (and her husband Mohamed), his younger sister Candace (and her husband Greg), his nieces Hartley, Rebecca, and Ava and his nephew Robert.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at Turner and Porter’s Neweduk Chapel in Mississauga on Saturday, November 1st. Visitation will start at 1pm, followed by a memorial service at 2 with a reception after. Friends are welcome to come and share stories in his honour.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto or the Georgian Bay Land Trust in Chris’ honour.”

Chris and I both loved gardening. The garden kneeler he gave me is in constant use and will always remind me of Chris and his love of a good story and a chuckle.

Chris was a very polite person with a gentle soul. He was a joy to talk to whenever we met around our apartment building or spoke over the phone. Sincere condolences to his daughter Caitlin and her family. May you rest in peace and shining light, Chris.
