Cathy Amy Evanoff (née Cameron), 80, of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away at Credit Valley Hospital with family at her side on Thursday March 26th, 2026. Devoted wife of 50 years to Gord Evanoff, loving mother, proudest grandmother, community builder, barbershop harmony singer, friend to many.
Cathy is survived by her son: Cameron (Heather) Evanoff; her beloved grandchildren: Alyssia (Steven Pereira), Mackenzie, and Declan; close family: Louise Gamble; her brother-in-law: Tom (Peggy) Evanoff; her sisters-in-law: Jan (Barry) Grisdale, and Lori Hand; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cathy was born in Owen Sound, Ontario on January 19, 1946, the only child of Allan and Anne Cameron (née Gamble). Early life in Chatsworth, Ontario was shaped by church life at Chatsworth’s St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, a large extended family, music, figure skating, and long winters.
Following graduation from Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute, mom made her move to Toronto. Building a career from office administration to sales and marketing. City life was a big draw for mom, and she loved the busy times filled with activities and outings. Mom was a bright light to many; social interaction and friendships made her tick. She never forgot a face or a name and would approach people she thought looked familiar and quickly make the connection. At a Ski Patrol awards social, she would meet the love of her life, Gord, rarely apart for the next 50 years.
They spent many summers sailing on Lake Ontario aboard their “Green With Envy”, first an O’Day 25, followed by a Goman Express 30. Joining Mimico Cruising Club in 1985, they enjoyed many club cruises, social events, music, racing, and friendships within the boating community. Following the closure of the Valley Schuss Ski Area, where Cathy and Gord had patrolled together, winters were spent skiing with friends in Ellicottville, with many trips to Quebec, and later the Milton Heights Racing Club where mom loved helping in the canteen. She was so proud of her grandchildren, would beam about their activities and accomplishments.
Singing in barbershop harmony choruses was a true passion for mom. Music was central to her life and she most enjoyed sharing with others. Singing with multiple Sweet Adeline and Harmony Inc. chorus’ over the years, mom had a passion to source out and welcome new members. Shows and competitions were a good excuse to get dressed up with makeup and have a party, the afterglows were the real fun. The past few years singing with Gord as members of the Golden Horseshoe Mixed Chorus were some of her favourite. The many visits, shared songs and phone calls over the past few weeks brought her much comfort. Blessed to know she is singing with dad again.
