In Celebration of

Caroline Justine Ptak-Young

July 13, 1971 -  May 9, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Caroline “Carrie” Justine Ptak-Young, who left us far too soon at the age of 53. Carrie passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 9, 2025 after a valiant battle with cancer. Carrie was a devoted mother to Charlotte and Katie Young, a cherished partner to David Brooks, a role model and dear friend to David’s daughters Emma and Alexandra and the Brooks family. Carrie was a beloved daughter to Dr. and Mrs. Theadore Ptak and brother Theadore “Teddy” Ptak. She also leaves behind many dear friends. Carrie’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all those that held her dear.

Carrie’s journey was marked by her passion for learning and her zest for life. Carrie attended The Toronto French School, The University of Western Ontario and UBC. Her love of science led her to a successful career in pharmaceutical sales, where she made significant contributions to the field. Later, Carrie followed her heart to the world of fashion, graduating from the Parsons School of Fashion and Design. Carrie established herself in the world of fashion at Saks Fifth Avenue and Holt Renfrew, where her effortlessly chic style and love for high fashion made her a trusted advisor and in many cases, friend to her clients. Carrie took immense joy in
helping others discover their unique style.

Carrie’s life was a vibrant tapestry of love, laughter, and adventure. Her beautiful smile and infectious curiosity were evident in everything she did. She had a special talent for planning the perfect birthday parties for her daughters and was always ready for an adventure. Whether it was chasing Duran Duran from Toronto to Ibiza, dancing to her favorite 80s music, star-spotting at TIFF, tracking down the latest Dior item, exploring art galleries, driving along her favorite Floridian coast, or swimming with whale sharks, Carrie embraced life with enthusiasm. Her love for travel was a constant throughout her life, from childhood trips with her parents to exploring the world with Katie and Charlotte, and cherished moments at the cottage and abroad with Dave. Carrie also found great joy and comfort in the companionship of her dogs, especially her most recent, Trevi.

Carrie’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the teams at Humber River Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carrie’s memory can be made to the Odette Cancer Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Visitation to be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto) on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025 from 4:00pm-8:00pm.

I met Cary many years ago when she was a rep with Astra Zeneca. She helped to establish and promote the Toronto West Gut Club. She was a delight to work with and I was sorry to see her leave. However her life left a legacy of wonderful memories, I’m sure. Linda and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to Alice, Ted Sr and Teddy along with her children and partner on her passing. May her memory be a blessing.

Charlotte & Katie, Dave and family, Dr. and Mrs. Ptak, I am so sincerely sorry for your loss. I will always remember Carrie's stunning beauty, especially on one occasion when she just absolutely sparkled. I am confident she looked like that often, whether dressed in high fashion or in sweats. You will cherish your memories with her and she will always be in your hearts, and ours. Love, Susan Irwin xo

I just wanted to share my deepest regret and consolation upon learning of Carrie on May 9th, 2025. I had been aware of her being unwell for some time now and that regrettably her health had further diminished in more recent weeks.

That said, there is still no way to really mitigate the shock and sadness of losing someone, despite the obvious regrettable signs of decline. In the end I hope she did not suffer too greatly at the end of her fight and has now found comfort and peace at last.

Please pass along my sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to David and all members of the Ptak and Brooks families along with friends both immediate and extended mourning Carrie's departure and marking the impact and memories of her on their own lives. Here is wishing you and your families the utmost in strength and courage throughout these difficult next few days and the weeks ahead.

With great sympathy from Spain,

Francis Savage
