In Celebration of

Carmen Veronica Chin

November 16, 1934 -  October 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Carmen Veronica Chin, on October 1st, at the age of 90.

Carmen was born in Jamaica, where she received her education and later married before welcoming her two sons, Carson (Liesa) and Kevin (Shelley). In the 1960s, she and her young family immigrated to Montreal, Quebec. With strength and determination, she built a career at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she worked until her retirement. In 2020, Carmen moved to Ontario to be closer to her children and their families.

She will be remembered for her generous spirit and her love of cooking. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth, and her meals were her way of showing love. Her famous Christmas Cake, carefully baked and shared with family, remains a treasured tradition. Carmen also found joy in her crafts—sewing, knitting, and needlepoint—skills she practiced with pride and shared with others.

Carmen’s greatest joy came from her family. She was blessed with five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren, who lit up her life, especially through the photos of her beloved great-grandbabies. Her home was filled with their pictures, a reflection of how deeply she cherished them all.

Known as the life of the party, Carmen’s laughter was unforgettable and could fill a room with joy. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and generosity that will live on in all who knew and loved her.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Carmen with kindness and care in her later years. Those wishing to remember Carmen may do so by sharing a meal, a story, or a moment of laughter with someone they love—just as she so often did.

A visitation will be held at the Turner & Porter Newduk Chapel. 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 10:30-11:30am. A celebration of life will follow in the Chapel at 11:30am. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to the charities she supported, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Her love will remain with us always.

Shelley Austin (Daughter-in-law)

When I was pregnant with my girls, she would bring me the comfiest pajamas to ease my comfort and would fill my freezer with amazing meals after long days of work. She passed on her love language of food, a gift I now share with my family and friends.

We shared many spiritual practices—from Christian faith to Stoicism and Buddhism. She was an avid reader, and I will always treasure our book discussions and the joy of exchanging stories and ideas.

I will miss her laugh, and I am deeply grateful for her gift of my husband Kevin. I will carry her lessons, her love, and her spirit with me always.

Love Shelley

My sincere condolences to Kevin, Carson and her family.
Carmen was a force of nature. Despite the sadness I feel, I am forever grateful to have known such a beautiful, giving, and sharp-witted woman. She was like an auntie to me - first a friend to my mom, but became mine as well.
I'm thankful that she got to know my kids, who now have wonderful memories of her. I will deeply miss our conversations, her laugh, her honesty. She always had something to say.

I met Carmen at the Government Lab in Jamaica . As a trainee she taught me in the Pathology Department.
She was a very knowledgeable, smart, intelligent lady who was respected by all who came to work with her.
Carmen was one of the smartest persons I know. We frequently had discussions about every topic every week.
In Canada we worked at the Royal Edward and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
We shared the love of gardening, sewing. cooking, and reading.
You may be gone from my life but not forgotten in my heart. .Rest in peace my dear friend.

Our family will miss Aunt Carmen.

We enjoyed hearing her insights into the family history and learning about her experiences in Jamaica.

Aunt Carmen was always excited to receive our family’s annual Christmas photo.
She would speak about how the children (now adults) had grown and changed since the previous year.

We are grateful that we had the opportunity to visit Canada last year and spend time with Aunt Carmen.
We will treasure the memories made with Aunt Carmen over the years.

We are saddened by her loss and would like to extend our condolences to Carson, Kevin and her entire family.

We love you Aunt Carmen
