It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Carlos Rodolfo Vega Rodriguez, who left us on February 2, 2026, at the age of 82 years old, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 26, 1944, in Tacna, Peru, Carlos’ life was a testament to love, family, faith, and perseverance.
Carlos was born with charisma. His natural ability to communicate and connect with others allowed him to leave his homeland and family and explore the world. As a young boy, instead of attending school, he sold fruit at a market to support his parents and five siblings. As a young man, his knack for sales took him on exciting trips and jobs throughout Central America. Carlos’ journey brought him to Panama in 1972 when he offered Koya and her friends a ride to a teacher’s seminar. Neither of them expected this ride to be the beginning of a life filled with joy, laughter, love, and adventure. Carlos and Koya were blessed with two children. The mounting political instability eventually forced them to leave their familiar life behind in search of a safer and brighter future for their son and daughter. Their journey took them through Miami, Muskegon, Montreal, and Mississauga, where the family settled and remained.
His unwavering love for his children fueled his work ethic throughout his careers. Regardless of his profession, whether it was sales, cleaning technician, or silk-screen printing, he approached each role with dedication and integrity. He was consistently regarded as a valuable and trusted team member.
During his retirement years, Carlos embraced his most cherished role as a grandfather. His grandchildren brought a renewed sense of life and joy into his life, and he made sure to cherish every moment spent with them. He shared his passions for soccer, traveling, nature, and wildlife with them, passing on these interests with pride and delight.
While he left his life in Peru behind many decades ago, his love for his homeland endured. He had great pride in sharing stories of its natural beauty, vibrant culture, and unparalleled cuisine. Caring for his family daily served as a life raft for Carlos through years of battling cancer. We are proud of our father for what he left behind to secure a better future for us, for caring for us, for enduring sickness to spend more time with us, and for being strong enough to let go and finally find peace. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a devoted father, the embodiment of resilience, a pillar of strength, and a man of faith.
Carlos is survived by Koya; his children Ted and Jhenny (Jesse); and his grandchildren Emma, Jackson, and Johanna. He is also survived by his sister, Angela; and brother, Orlando.
