In Celebration of

Carl Mark De Souza

June 4, 1977 -  February 21, 2024

It is with great sorrow that the family of Carl Mark De Souza announce his passing on February 21, 2024, at the age of 46. Carl fought hard for the past 14 months as he battled Stage 4 Gastric Cancer.

Carl was the Senior Director of Transformation at CIBC. He had an impeccable sense of style, a great knowledge of movies and film, and amazing taste in music. Carl loved playing golf, in addition to playing video games and the electric guitar. He loved watching the Leafs, the Blue Jays, the PGA, and Formula 1 racing, but most of all he was a loving and devoted father and husband, a son and a brother, a cousin and a nephew, and a wonderful friend to so many people throughout this life.

Carl is lovingly remembered by his wife Amanda Wells, his 2 sons Liam and Owen Wells-De Souza, his mother and father Ariosto and Coleta De Souza, his sister Monica De Souza, his brother and sister-in-law Anselm and Andrea Kerkos-De Souza and their children Xavier and Zadie. He is also cherished by his in-laws, Cathy Huntley and Doug Wells, his sisters and brothers in-law Sandy Wells and Simon Darnell, Jessica and Eric Van Allen, April and Crystal Wells and their children.

A visitation for Carl De Souza will be held at Turner and Porter on Sunday, February 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish on Monday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. The internment will be held at Park Lawn Cemetery after the funeral mass, and a reception will be held following the internment at Our Lady of Sorrows in the Parish Hall where light refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in memory of Carl to the charities of your own choosing. Carl was a strong believer in dignity and justice for all and he would find great joy in knowing that his memory was celebrated through acts of love and generosity across many diverse and deserving causes.

Got to know Carl well during a one month trip to Africa and Zanzibar.
He was such a well behaved, loving, caring and helpful young man.
Such a wonderful individual deserves a wonderful place in Heaven.
Rest In Peace, Carl.

Carl, you were one of the best hires I ever made. Convincing you to join CIBC as selfishly I knew you would make my life easier with your knowledge, experience and wisdom. You did not disappoint, and instead excelled at everything you did in the corporate world. The stories of your family and your kids resonated the same evidence of success and commitment, and I know they were all so lucky to have had you as their family as we were to have you as a colleague and friend.

Re-reading our text exchanges of the last year I shed a little tear and a big smile, because you fought like a champion and can now rest free of pain and suffering.

To Carl's family - a prayer has been made - you lost an amazing human but you are all better for having him for the time that you did.

Corby Fine
