In Celebration of

Gordon Bruce Sinclair

June 20, 1928 -  March 24, 2023

Peacefully at Humber River Hospital, taken to be with the Lord on Friday, March 24th, 2023. Beloved husband of Elizabeth, and of his late wife Betty. Loving father of Colin, Marian (Dick), and John, loving grandfather of Becky, David, Curtis and Tyler, and great-grandfather to Easton. Beloved brother of the late Isobel McGregor (Colin) of Waterloo, and loving uncle of Robin (Robbie), Bonnie (Gary), and Ian (Denise). On Betty’s side, loving uncle to Patti, Mary, Susan, and Peter McBride, and Ted Capes. His loving cousins regularly celebrate their birthdays together and will miss his cheery up-beat personality. Lovingly remembered by Grace Schakelaar (Gerrit) and Marilyn Nelson (Gordon).

Bruce had fond memories of his longtime friends around his hometown of Welland, his Church friends and associates from his “careers “in finance, education, and municipal government. He was honored to serve as Mayor of Etobicoke for 10 years, and on Metro Toronto Council for over 20 years.

Funeral service will be held at Kingsway Baptist Church, Saturday April 1, 11.00 a.m. 41 Birchview Boulevard Etobicoke, Ont. (Montgomery Rd. and Bloor St. W.)

For anyone who would like to be at the service but cannot attend, the service will be live-streamed by the church. Please click on the livestream button below to watch.

On behalf of the entire Toronto City Clerk's Office, please accept our deepest condolences. Many of us had the privilege of working closely with Mayor and Councillor Sinclair during his time in office and I can say without hesitation that he touched countless lives during that time.

Bruce leaves so many good memories for me to cherish. He and his late wife Betty were my first friends in Canada and they truly looked out for me over the years.

I will miss him very much.

I appreciated Bruce's strong leadership. He was a go-getter, a steady Christian person, with a wide range of interests, from civic affairs to teaching English to new Canadians. He was generous. Condolences to Elizabeth.

So sorry for the loss of your dad. I loved his cheery smile and bubbly personality.

I was encouraged, and challenged, by Bruce's serving others, welcoming the stranger, seeking the good of the city, trusting in God's graces, his generosity and not missing the humour in almost every circumstance. Memory of his gratitude for life and for people, in good times and hard times, remains with me.
