In Celebration of

Brian Warrack

April 14, 1943 -  July 17, 2017

Dr. Brian Douglas Warrack passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, July 17, 2017, at Lakeshore Lodge in Etobicoke, at the age of 74.
Brian was born in Calgary, Alberta on April 14, 1943. He grew up in Calgary and
earned his Bachelor of Sciences at the University of Calgary, and then his Masters and PhD in Mathematics Topology at the University of Alberta. After teaching Commerce and Business at the University of Alberta, Brian moved to Kitchener, Ontario to teach corporate finance, investment management, statistics and decision analysis at Wilfrid Laurier University. He also published numerous articles and textbooks in these areas.
It is not lost on those who knew him well, the numerical significance of his date of passing – 7/17/17.
Brian, lovingly aka “Brain,” will be remembered by countless students from Laurier who adored him, and a handful who dared to accept his challenge, unsuccessfully, to beat him at a game of tennis for an A grade in his course.
In addition to being a mathematical scholar, Brian had an incredible love and talent for playing piano. Music was always a very important part of his life.
He will forever be remembered for his infectious smile, kind demeanor and genuine interest in everyone he met. Brian had a huge heart, and great love and pride for his family and many friends.
Brian will be dearly missed by his wife Karen, daughter Cynthia, brother David (Lona), niece Cayleigh (Patrick) and nephews Gordon (Jessica), Levi, Shane and Bram.
Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, July 24 from 4:00-6:00 pm at The Boulevard Club, 1491 Lakeshore Boulevard West. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brian’s favourite charity, Wounded Warriors https://tinyurl.com/y98gx3xr
or to the Alzheimers Society of Canada https://tinyurl.com/ybqlmakh .

Hello Cynthia! I worked at Laurier during the 80s and not only got to know your Dad during that time, but I also befriended Mico Meier...You were a little girl at that time and Mico looked after you. Your Mom and Dad were very welcoming to me when I visited your house and it was lovely to get to know your Dad outside of the office and your family . I kept up a friendship with Mico after she returned to Switzerland until we both were married and had our sons. I remember your Dad as such a gentle man. The photo on the site shows the kindness of the man I remember. I am sorry for your loss. Yvette Livingston (WLU 89)

It's such a long time ago but I fondly remember Brian and David on 7A Street Calgary; both of them were always smiling or having fun.
It was always a source of amazement to me that the two streets in Rosedale - 7 and 7A - in a two block area over a two year span produced 7 PhDs. Brian, Alan Arthur, Richard Mansfield, Gerry Manning, David Surplis and Grant Hammond (I believe Richard Mansfield has 2).
Please accept my condolences.
