In Loving Memory of Brenda Pal
August 23, 1929 – August 7, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Brenda Maureen Pal, in her 96th year. Brenda lived a full and beautiful life marked by grace, warmth, and an unwavering love for her family.
Born in Bruno, Saskatchewan, Brenda Kennedy became Brenda Pal when she married Joseph Stephen Pal, the love of her life and best friend, in 1950. During their early years together, Brenda and Joe lived in Montreal while Joe starred for the Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. They shared 62 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2012.

Together, Brenda and Joe built a loving home and a legacy of kindness, generosity, and joy. Predeceased by son Kyran, she was a devoted mother to Joe (Lucie), Tim (Alison), and Jane (Dean), a proud and adoring Nana to Katie (Dan), Charles, Stephanie (Alex), Tim (Kim), Andrew (Anna), David (Sarah), Joseph (Molly), Ben, and Emily, and a loving GIGI to ten great-grandchildren.

Brenda was a woman of many gifts. A successful real estate agent in The Kingsway for many years, she brought professionalism, class, and a sharp eye to every client she served. Brenda was a gifted artist, remembered for her striking paintings of the St. Lawrence River and her signature Blue Heron. Unafraid to evolve her style, she shifted from impressionist landscapes to a modern contemporary style as her eyesight changed, always finding new ways to express herself and create beauty.

Yet her greatest masterpiece was the family she built and nurtured as its unequivocal matriarch. She ensured the next generations valued the little moments like family dinners, dock parties, and holidays. She was a constant at first communions, graduations, proposals, weddings, and births of grandchildren. She was a sought-after guest, bringing a vigour for life in her nineties that could outpace many twenty-year-olds.
Her happiest moments were spent with family in the Thousand Islands and in Naples, Florida, surrounded by the people she loved most. The dock parties with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were where she felt truly at home. Each fall, she beamed with anticipation to return to “Timbercreek” to spend winters with friends who became like family, especially after Joe’s passing. She knew how to host a party, no detail too small, from warmed plates to ensuring there was never an empty glass. She loved golden hour boat rides, especially in the Evergreen, with family close by. One of her favourite traditions was Facetiming her expansive family on Christmas morning to watch the children open their gifts.

She was the last one to leave a party, cosmopolitan in hand, lighting up every room with her laughter and stories. Her favourite toast captured her unique blend of humour and heart: “Here’s to us, no one more important, very few like us.”

The family extends their deepest thanks to the compassionate and skilled nursing staff at Humber River Hospital, particularly the ICU and 9 West nursing teams, for the care and compassion they provided in Brenda’s final days.

Brenda had a generous spirit and a remarkable zest for life. She was an icon and a rare one of a kind. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A private family service will be held in accordance with Brenda’s wishes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Food for Children, a charity dear to Brenda’s heart, and would be greatly appreciated by the family.
