Bozica Papala

February 9, 1938 -  June 5, 2023

Božica Papala (Menalo), age 85, passed away peacefully on June 5th at Hospice Vaughan following a short courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, who will forever cherish her memory. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched.

Bozica was born in Cerevo, Hercegovina, on February 9, 1938. She was the oldest of 8 children. She immigrated to Canada, landing in Toronto in 1967. Marrying her husband Henry in July 1969.

Božica admired her role as a beloved mother. She was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering love and support for her children Mary (Domenic) and Janey, and grandchildren Stephanie and Anthony.

Predeceased by her husband Henry and daughter Janey. Parents Jakov and Janja (Šutalo), brothers Vide and Đure and sister Ruža. Dear sister to Matija (late Miśo), Ruža, Mate (Draga), Ruža (Vide), Anica(Vlaho Mordan), Vide (Ivica), Dure.

Remembered and loved by her many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Bozica led a life filled with love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and uplift generations to come. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will forever remain with us.

Throughout her life, Bozica exemplified strength, resilience, and kindness. She was known for her warm smile, which could light up any room, and her nurturing nature that made everyone feel safe and loved in her presence. Her wise counsel, gentle words, and unconditional support were always readily available to her family and friends.

Božica had a profound impact on her community. Her selflessness extended beyond her family, as she actively was an involved member of Our Lady Queen of Croatia Catholic Church.

Family would like to thank the staff at Hospice Vaughan for the wonderful care and making her final weeks comfortable.

Visitation will be at Turner & Porter, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St W., Toronto on Friday, June 9 2023, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to Karitas, Hospice Vaughan or any charity of your choice.

Forever in our hearts. Never forgotten.

Your mother will be remembered with great fondness. It’s so true about her loving spirit- all in her warm and kind words, smiles and those sweet hugs! I am so glad the family and community had her in their(our) lives so long and hope her suffering was short. May you have peace knowing she’s with God, Janey and other loved ones. May the loving times and memories live in your hearts. My deepest condolences.
