In Celebration of
Borg Nielsen
November 7, 1930 -
January 20, 2018
It is with great sadness that the Nielsen family announces the passing of Borg. Beloved husband of Signe. Loving father of Diane Nielsen (Doug Stead), June Rimar (Otto), and Lisa Nailor (John). Cherished grandfather of Laura (Chase), Samantha, Emily, Amanda, Madeline and Luke.
Borg was born in Nibe, Denmark. His family owned a dairy farm so we know it was in his blood. After apprenticing in Denmark, he arrived in Canada with Signe in 1957. A small dairy, Olive Farm, gave him his first job. This was a dairy located in the middle of the city just down the street from the Summerhill subway station! From there, he joined Dominion Dairies (Sealtest), then trying his hand with cheese at Black Diamond in Belleville. He returned to Toronto to work for Ault Foods and finished his career with Nestle.
While Borg loved everything about the dairy business, family was the most important thing to him. Dad always welcomed people to their home and was the first person to find a reason to gather the family together for a celebration. As our family grew, Dad built a table that would seat 20 of us. There are so many wonderful memories for us around that table; his favourite meals being Danish soup and smorgasbord. Dad enjoyed golf (both playing and watching on TV), riding his bike, going for walks, eating ice cream, baking bread, bridge, a good cup of coffee and spirited conversation around the dining room table. We have so many wonderful family memories of time spent together at cottages, on cruises, renting houseboats, camping and visiting family in Denmark. Always smiling, we will miss him with all our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff at St Joseph Health Centre, the Mississauga Halton LHIN, the nurses at Spectrum, personal support staff from Care Partners, Dr Hamrahi and the entire staff at The Dorothy Ley Hospice. Their kindness and empathy supported us through this very difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Dorothy Ley Hospice would be appreciated.
