In Celebration of

Bohdan Michael Kuchmij

June 5, 1960 -  July 5, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful Bohdan on July 5th, 2024.

Beloved father of Aleksandr and Nikolas, whom he adored, loving brother of Halya and Dianne, brother in law to Danny, and a thoughtful uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.

Bohdan was born in Toronto on June 5, 1960 to Marta and Stefan Kuchmij, who immigrated to Canada from Western Ukraine. He will be best remembered for his loving heart, kindness, gentleness, compassion, curiosity, sense of humour, professionalism and devotion to his family.

Some of his favorite things were traveling, the outdoors, camping, science fiction, his Ukrainian heritage and his love for animals.

Bohdan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, and a degree in Slavic Studies at the University of British Columbia.

He was a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy. After his release from the military, he became an immigration officer for the CBSA.

Bohdan may your spirit always live on and may your star always shine bright. We love you and you will be missed.

"This world was never made for someone as beautiful as you."

Dear Halya and family,

I did not know your beloved Bohdan but I do know you, Halya, and our family used to rent your parents cottage before we built our own.
Your baby brother left this earth much too early but he left an impression on everyone he touched.
Vichna Yomu Pamiat!

I met Bob through work. He is such a kind hearted man and was always helpful
when it comes to getting the job done. I got to know him more when he was transferred to another office but he would come to GTEC to attend meetings or training. He always make sure that he stops at my work station to catch up on life. Sometimes we were able to meet for lunch. Even during lunch we would share life stories and experience.
My deepest and sincerest sympathy to your family and friends. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
Your friend, Luckie

Bohdan. I know that you can hear me. You will forever be my lifetime buddy and I will miss you dearly. Life had kept us apart at times but always brought us back together. My heart is aching. It all started on Shaw Street and Manchester Avenue back in the 1960’s...well before cottages at Cawaja Beach. Your mom and my mom made sure that we became friends. Hiding under your cottage before there was a basement, catching snakes, sleeping in the Bunkie that your dad built for us, swinging from ropes between the tall pine trees and mini biking...we were so cool and had so much fun. Billy Jack was our mentor! We had our first drinks and zabavas together. I’ll never forget your first car, a VW Bug that we had to scrape the ice off the inside of the front window so that we could drive home after the pub at UoT Mississauga. We grew up together and our circle of friends had grown to include Peter, Pat, Jerry and the rest of the Cawaja gang. Midland movie drive-in adventures, greasy fries at the Georgian Grill, your cabin at Balm Beach and of course...Barrel Works. So much fun...so many memories. You joined the Royal Canadian Navy and for that reason so did I. We both decided to serve Canada, just as our fathers chose to serve Ukraine during WWII. We are proud Canadian Veterans. We were cut from the same cloth. Family life and children followed for both of us. Nick and Alex are so lucky to have you as their father and you certainly let us all know how proud of them you are. Bohdan, our friendship was and will always remain the best. No regrets....I will miss you forever. Love You! Terry.
