William E. Small passed away peacefully, with family by side, at his residence in Port Credit, Mississauga, on Thursday, February 12, 2015. His 87 years were filled with accomplishment and admiration. Beloved husband to Betty Lou Small for 65 years, and loving father to Susan and husband Bill Henry, Cynthia, Julie and David and his wife Jackie. Proud grandpa to Elissa (Ben Wenzofsky), Joshua, Faryl, Craig (Alysia Daley), Jeff, Trevor, Natalie, Caroline and Victoria, and great -grandpa to Makayla and Rylee. Predeceased by one brother and five sisters.

His legacy spans both his personal and professional lives. He was a man of strong family values – a caring husband, a devoted father and a family figurehead of the Small clan. He came from a heritage of homebuilding and dedicated his life to creating a safe, happy living environment for not only his family, but for families across the GTA. He assumed leadership of Edward Small & Son, a home construction company developed by his late father Edward Small, and headed up the development of multiple subdivisions throughout Mississauga and Etobicoke, including the notable Walden Spinney and Applewood. He was the youngest president of the Toronto Home Builders’ Association and a founding member and past president of HUDAC (Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada), now the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. He was the co-founder of the Canadian National Home Show and Chairman for many years. His business acumen was only outdone by his caring nature.

He spent his time between his family home in South Mississauga and his cherished cottage in French River. He was responsible for several cottage developments in French River and a noteworthy suspension bridge that was affectionately named after him. He had a passion for aviation, acquired his pilot’s licence in 1965, and was a Life Sustaining Member of the Brampton Flying Club.

Bill’s gentle nature, caring heart and wisdom will be remembered fondly by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. A special thanks to the staff of the Port Credit Residences. Friends will be received at the Turner & Porter "Peel Chapel", 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10 N., of QEW), on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel, on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate any remembrances be made to the Britt Nursing Station at the West Parry Sound Health Centre.
