It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of William “Bill” Cheshire. He left this world on December 19, 2024, at the age of 80, due to complications from heart surgery. He was surrounded by his loving family by his side. We will always remember his smile, warmth, generosity and jovial sense of humour.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Joan Cheshire, and his loving children Greg (Larisa), Kevin (Meggie) and Carolyn (Brian) and by his seven grandchildren Norah, Emily, Ally, Tommy, Sammy, Abigail and Ben.
Bill was born in Wiarton, Ontario on December 18, 1944. He remembered fondly growing up on the Bruce Peninsula with his parents Delena and Hubert Cheshire and his sisters Mary Brough and Janet Couch. An excellent student, he enjoyed the Ivey Business School at Western University and a long career in Human Resources with various companies.
He was involved in many charities and Boards, enjoyed volunteering at The Compass Food Bank, helped in local government issues, the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations and many other organizations. He had a great love of history and music. His family appreciated his extensive history of the family in the Bruce Peninsula and the work he did on writing down these memories and cataloging pictures.
Family was the most important thing to Bill. Some of his fondest memories were with his family at the cottage at Baptiste Lake. He greatly enjoyed his days there, going for long walks, swimming, reading, working around the cottage and visits with grandchildren and friends.
For those who wish to honour Bill’s memory, donations can be made to The Compass Mississauga food bank in his name: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/in-memory- of-bill-cheshire/ (please go below to Make a Donation)
Bill will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved him. The family will hold a service at a later date. Please be in touch if you would like to join.
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
