In Celebration of

Ben Wittig

October 21, 1959 -  August 10, 2018

Considered to be in the line of duty, Invincible Ben passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto after a series of lengthy illnesses. Forever loved and admired by his wife, Jennifer Wittig (nee Ohab), beloved son to his mother, Margot Lisa Wittig and adored father by his two young daughters Genevieve Wittig and Juliette Wittig, who were the light and inspiration of his life. Ben served as a Firefighter for over 30 years with the City of Mississauga and was known by all for his charisma, enthusiasm and infectious personality. Ben lived life on his terms and always loved telling a great story. Despite many health challenges, Ben always pushed through and endured far more than any person should, without complaint. He will be forever remembered and cherished by his family, friends and the entire Swansea community. The Wittig family sincerely thanks Toronto General Hospital for treating Ben like their own over the past fifteen years and St. Joseph’s Health Centre for taking him into their hearts during his final weeks. Ben, you are a true original and made a difference in the lives of all those who knew you. Thank you for the great party. The fireworks will go on next year in your honour.

Ben and I have shared many memories together growing up. Going to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show, he says to me short warning ‘watch this’. We had rice thrown on us, toast etc., he broke out in that indescribable laugh because he knew I was surprised.
Or going to see the band Rush at the old Maple Leaf Gardens and someone threw a fire cracker down from above & it landed behind me in my jacket on my seat. He was laughing hysterically, joke was on him it was his jacket it landed in! So many more stories & lifelong memories we shared together that I have to hold onto. He was a best friend, like a brother to me and will be forever loved and missed.
Thanks Ben, for making me laugh! Janet
