In Celebration of

Bela de Jesus Barradas

August 30, 1931 -  January 25, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce that Bela passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2020 at the Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke.

Beloved wife of Bernardino for 70 joyful years. Devoted mother of Fernando (Fatima), Zelia (Jose), Ivo (Mary) and Elias (Isaura). She will be forever missed by her nine grandchildren: Danny, Cindy, Kevin (Benita), Alana (Angelo), Amanda (Kyle), Karen (Danny), Andrew, Jessica (Helder) and Alyssa. Proud great-grandmother of Rebecca, Liam, Ethan, Matteo, Milana, Mikayla and Vanessa. Fondly remembered and dearly missed by her sister Maria (Santa) and brother-in-law Jorge, sister-in-law Jerdalina and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Antonio and Maria Leopoldina Nunes and five of her six siblings.

Bela was born in Sao Roque do Funchal in Madeira Island, Portugal where she met her love, Dino at the age of 14. They married in July of 1950 and started their family. In 1966, the family decided to immigrate and together they set off on their life-time adventure to Toronto, Canada. Here, they joined many family who also came from Portugal and made many friendships. Bela devoted a good part of her years to raising her grandchildren with much love and she remained the matriarch of her family until her death. Bela never hesitated to host birthday parties and summer bbqs and many holidays. Bela loved being out and about and surrounded by family and friends. Bela was an inspiration to her family in that she was one of few words but she was always strong, fair and kind. She lived her life her way and without hesitation. She cherished the moments of family time and always loved to pop-by and visit her extended family and grandchildren at a moment's notice.

In honour of our beloved Bela, in lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Dorothy Ley Hospice where she spent her last few weeks, surrounded by family and the caring staff at the hospice.
