In Celebration of

Barbara Radovini

November 26, 1948 -  June 4, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we share that our beloved and beautiful mother, Barbara Radovini, passed away peacefully in the early hours of June 4, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Born on November 26, 1948, Barbara’s life was a journey marked by resilience, strength, and unwavering love. She faced challenges with quiet courage, worked hard without complaint, and gave her whole heart to those around her. Whether through her warm, radiant smile, a gentle word, a helping hand, or even a thoughtfully offered hard candy, Barbara had a way of making everyone feel seen, loved, and cared for.

She was deeply proud of her children, her daughters-in-law, her son-in-law, and her grandchildren. She celebrated each of their milestones with joy and pride. She lived a life rich in love, kindness, and laughter, and her spirit continues to shine through all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Barbara leaves behind a legacy of compassion, warmth, and grace. Her family and friends will profoundly miss her, but her memory will live on in our hearts.

We know we cannot hold you in our arms again, but we find comfort in believing the angels have embraced you and welcomed you home.

With sadness, tenderness, and endless love, we say goodbye to a remarkable woman, a devoted mother, and a proud, loving grandmother.

Babcia, rest now. We love you. Always

In memory of Barbara, donations may be made to the Canadian Down Syndrome Society.

This weekend, I will be sorting through photos and finding countless ones of Babcia having fun, being a ham for the camera.

One of my fondest memories:
In the car, Babcia in the passenger seat, the young kids staring at us in the back without a word. The two of us united, belting out, from deep within our bellies, the catchy lyrics to one of the most prominent beats of the century:

Yeah, it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two
But I can shake it, shake it, like I'm supposed to do
… Because you know I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass
'Bout that bass... bass... bass... bass

“ ‘All About That Bass’ is all about the empowerment of being thick,” a reviewer wrote.
But in this case, I’d suggest it went beyond our Spanx size.
Thick skinned, for better or for worse; a concept for which Babcia was an avid advocate.

According to Wikipedia, Meghan Trainor was inspired to write the song to promote self-acceptance. Some critics described it as saying it “encourages people to embrace their uniqueness” and calling it "shimmery" and "cheeky”. Some of the moods of the song are listed as: empowerment, love, social commentary, party, joy.

I’d say Babcia did A LOT of all of the above with us. 😂

Meghan Trainor once said: “‘All About That Bass’ is about loving yourself… and having fun with it.”

Fun with it, Babcia did indeed. We had some great times. When that inner child and playful nature came out, most at ease, shimmery, cheeky, and chill.

Rest in peace, Mama Bear
