In Celebration of

Barbara Pytka

June 6, 1938 -  February 22, 2026

Barbara Pytka passed away on February 22, 2026, at the age of 87.

Starting from humble beginnings, Barbara, together with her younger sister, Kazimiera, was raised by a single mother during World War II in the small village of Świeciechów and, after the war, in the town of Kraśnik.

As a young woman beginning her adult life in Kraśnik and working at a metal factory, Barbara met the love of her life, Zygmunt. Both smitten, they soon married and began building a life together—first in Kraśnik and later in Gdańsk. Barbara followed and supported Zygmunt throughout his career. They raised their family and were blessed with two children, Ewa and Tomek.

Barbara devoted her life to her family. She worked and managed a busy household, preparing meals, baking, and tending a well-kept garden. She supported her children, Ewa and Tomek, as they pursued their goals, including Ewa’s move to Canada. Tragically, in 2000, she suffered the terrible loss of her son, Tomek.

In 2001, Barbara and her husband, Zygmunt, emigrated to Canada for their retirement years, where she embraced her role as grandmother to her granddaughters, Cora and Martha. She passed on her love of cooking and family traditions to the next generation.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Kazimiera; her daughter, Ewa; her son‑in‑law, Irek; and her granddaughters, Cora and Martha. Her memory will live on in the family traditions she cherished, the meals she prepared, and the love she gave so freely. A funeral service will be held in her honor.

Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Friday, March 13, 2026 from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral Mass to be held at St. Casimir's Church ,156 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 9:50 a.m.

Interment at Sanctuary Park Cemetery.

All are invited to join the family for a Reception at The Mandarin, 200 Queens Plate Drive, Rexdale at 12:30 p.m.
