In Celebration of

Barbara Joanne Salmon

October 17, 1952 -  March 19, 2017

We are saddened to announce Barbara’s passing on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga after a short, yet courageous battle with cancer. Loving daughter of the late Ken and Madeline. Cherished Big Sister of Gordon (Denise) and David (Sue). Adored Aunt to Nikki, Christopher, Jeffery and Stephanie. Great Aunt to Sophia and Walter. Barbara will be lovingly remembered by many friends, co-workers and extended family.

Born October 17, 1952 in Toronto, Barbara was raised on Meadowbank Rd. in Etobicoke. After graduating from Burnhamthorpe Collegiate, Barbara attended the University of Toronto. In 1975 she graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science (Physical Therapy).
Barbara started her career as a Physiotherapist in Brantford Ontario. After a couple years Barb was bitten by the travel bug and headed off to Australia and New Zealand where she worked, traveled, and volunteered for about 1 ½ years. Along the way she met many new friends whom she maintained contact with for years to come.
When she returned to Canada, Barbara continued her Physiotherapy career at The Orthopedic & Arthritic Hospital on Wellesley St. in Toronto. Barbara retired in 2009 after 30 years but continued working there on a casual basis until this year.
Barbara embraced her love of travel throughout her life with too many trips to count. She immersed herself in the culture and beauty of all the places she visited and captured the essence of each destination through her photography. Some would comment that her photos rivalled those found in National Geographic.
Barbara was a dedicated life-long member of St. Matthews Anglican Church, Islington. She was known to take on any task and could be relied upon to complete it with organized precision.
Interests that were important to Barbara were family, friends, quilting, needlework, book club, tai chi, yoga, gardening and so much more.

For those who wish, donations to the St. Matthew’s Anglican Church Pipe Organ Fund would be appreciated.

Barbara Lenehan (Friend)

Barb and I met in 1971 at the University of Toronto Physiotherapy programme. Being west enders we would often travel home from school on the subway together. After graduation we remained friends and over the years we would often travel together. Our most recent trip was to Copper Canyon in Mexico last Fall. This year was to mark a banner year for both of us and Canada. We had planned to take the Rocky Mountaineer through B.C. and Alberta. Sadly that will not happen now.

I have many fond memories of my true friend. I will miss her terribly but I will never forget her.

So saddened by your sudden and tragic loss. Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers at this extremely difficult time. We will always have the fondest of memories of time spent at family reunions, special celebrations, camping, fabric shopping, quilt shows, and hearing of her travels around the world.

Brenda Maver (Friend & Neighbour)

Barbara was my next door neighbour and friend when I lived in Village Court Brampton. I will remember her as a compassionate and caring individual who had a knack for being able to see both sides of a situation and coming up with a solution. Something that was very helpful over the years that we both spent on the condominium board as directors. My sincere condolences to her family. Her life was cut short too soon.
