In Celebration of

Barbara Joan Douglas (nee McBride)

January 6, 1932 -  December 10, 2022

After a full and happy life of 90+ years, peacefully and with family by her side, Mom was called to be with her Lord on December 10, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Bill Douglas after 48+ years of marriage. Proud mother to Catherine and her husband Ken Peacock, Paul (Patricia) and his late wife Arlene and the late John. Mom is also survived by her daughter-in-law Madonna Lee and husband Geoff. Cherished “Gran” to Sean, Allana (Dan), Claire, Courtney, Kimberly, Andrew, Rachel, Grace and Ava. Adored great grandmother “G.G.” to Delilah, Abby, Damien, Cheyenne and the newest arrival Douglas on December 6, 2022.

Her family and living out her faith were important to Mom as was music and her love of dogs. As one of the original parishioners of the Church of Saint Luke-Dixie South, Mom actively served in a number of capacities throughout her life. Much of her other volunteer work was centered on supporting young musicians and music in Mississauga. She was involved with various aspects of the Mississauga Symphony (MSO) including babysitting musicians’ babies on rehearsal nights, music librarian, the women’s committee, looking after the guest artists and had the honourary title of “Principal Second Triangle” in the orchestra. Mom was the first recipient of the MSO John Barnum Service Award in 2013.

Cremation has taken place and a service of thanksgiving for Mom’s life will be held at a later time.

If desired, Mom would be pleased if gifts of remembrance were made to the Scott Mission, The Compass in Mississauga or to the Mississauga Symphony.

It was a pleasure knowing Barbara over the years, first through the book sale in support of MSO and then afterwards when we had the occasional lunch. Although she will be missed I’m Glad she’s now at peace

JOANNE NOBLE (Life long friend of the family and former neighbour)

Barb was a good friend of my parents and they all enjoyed attending the symphony regularly. They liked heading to each other's homes for special occasions and the Douglas pool was always open to cool off in.
Later on, when I would travel to Mississauga and visit Catherine, Barb would show up to enjoy the visit too -
she would always inquire if I had room in my suitcase for gifts she wanted to send to her grandkids in Thunder Bay. Most times I was able to accommodate.
I haven't been able to see her these past few years but she made an enduring impression on my life and I have many fond memories of her and her family.
