Barbara Lynn Bunker (Wilson), aged 79, passed away peacefully in the memory wing of Malton Village Long Term Care on March 8 at 5:30 pm. She began her life in Verdun, worked for Bell Canada and started her family in Lachine, then spent the second half of her life raising her children, working as a school secretary and building her community in Etobicoke. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend who was known for her big heart and her unwavering desire to do good for the world.
Barbara was beloved by Harold, her husband of 56 years; her daughter Kathryn and her wife Sara; her son Andrew and his wife Tia; and her granddaughter Lucy. Barbara never met a stranger, and all were welcome at her dinner table. She is survived by a large circle of family and friends who will miss their long phone calls, letters, shopping trips, card games, adventures and holiday dinners.
A woman who truly embodied the essence of love, Barbara didn’t just believe in angels, she spent her life acting like one. She was always the first to volunteer, whether with the Girl Guides, the church, or the Relay for Life. She was a woman of "yes," always game for an adventure, a concert, a play, or a simple visit and chat. Her home was a sanctuary where everyone felt seen, heard, and deeply cared for.
Barbara’s final years were a struggle with Alzheimer's. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Malton Village for the authentic care and respect shown to Barbara during the last year of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, an organization that was instrumental in helping the family navigate the challenges of the last four years.
Please join us in celebrating her life and love on April 11, 2026 at Richview United Church, where Barb was a longtime member, at 3pm followed by what Barb would've loved most, a reception with all of you and yummy snacks.
While she leaves a significant gap in the lives of those who knew her, Barbara left a map on how to love better. We will remember her every time we smell fresh cookies or choose to say "yes" to a moment of joy.
The navigation panel is at the top of the page where there is space for you to share your stories, photos, and more of Barbara.
