In Celebration of

Aykut "Al" Sakarya

September 23, 1945 -  January 25, 2022

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Aykut (Al) Sakarya.

Al was born and raised in the city of Ankara, Turkey. He attended military school from 1959-1962. A lover of music, a drummer, Al was part of a band named Kentet for 9 years. Those were the days that he loved to reminisce about. In 1971, he left Turkey and made a new home for himself in Canada.

He loved to ski and golf, but most of all, he loved to sail. It was one of his biggest dreams come true to own a boat. He could spend his days just cruising the waters on his boat, “Dream Catcher”. Al was free-spirited and enjoyed travelling the world.

He was devoted to his work and craft at Encom Air Systems for over 35 years and had no plans of slowing down.

Al’s charismatic personality was bound up with energy, kindness, generosity, and jokes. He was the life of the party and enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends over a good meal. He adored being a Dede to his grandkids and Papa Al to Rosette's grandkids. Al lived life to the fullest and celebrated everybody in such thoughtful and caring ways.

Gone too soon. He was a fighter until the end. We find solace in knowing that his soul lives on.

Loved dearly by Rosette, his daughters (Rita, Tina), his grandchildren (Alex, Kenzie, Kirsi, Logan), siblings (Aytug, Ayce), Rosette’s daughters (Marnee, Mia, Mariesette), and friends — Al touched the hearts of everyone who met him.

We will forever hold onto the memories. He will truly be missed.

Private arrangements have been made for the visitation.

The Burial Service will take place on Monday, January 31st, 2022 at Glen Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

I am very sorry to hear of Al's passing. He was an extremely courteous, hardworking individual. He always had the ability to make me smile and I thank him for that. We could use a few more Al's in the world!
My thoughts are with you.

I am really saddened by this news. Al was an absolute character, he always put a smile on my face when we spoke on the phone and in person. I think most would agree his energy and enthusiasm was contagious. He was a genuine person and I am really sorry for his family.
