Aubrey Earle Maurice Hughes

September 3, 1935 -  March 7, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Aubrey Earle Maurice Hughes announces his death. He died on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Credit Valley Hospital. Aubrey was born in Diligent River, Nova Scotia on September 3, 1935 to Earle and Lola Hughes (nee Colpitts). He is survived by his beloved wife Dorina (nee Libralesso) to whom he was married for 58 years, and also survived by his younger sister, Connie (married to Garry Brown) of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Tracie Hughes (married to Samuel Ricchezza), Terri-Lynn Hughes (married to Peter Burdon), and Cori Hughes (married to Les Neilson). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Daniela, Benjamin, Emily-Jane, Gabriela, Aubrey, Andrew and Ryan. Aubrey was the head of sales and marketing for Stanfield’s Ltd. for more than 30 years. He started his career as a sales rep for Atlantic Wholesalers in Nova Scotia and later worked for Canada Packers. Aubrey loved three things in life: his family, sales, and telling a good story. He will be sorely missed.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin Mills’ Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (east of Erin Mills Pkwy), on Wednesday from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at 3 p.m.

It's a sad time for Aubrey's family and friends. But every time my eyes well up with tears the really great memories of Aubrey seem to take was away the sadness, bringing a reserved smile to my face. Aubrey was one of a kind. A great bigger than life man who could tell stories like no other. Knowing that a small absence of truth could greatly improve a story. He would never hesitate to inform me that I was full of it. I think those memories provide me the most comfort at this difficult time. Aubrey was quick to tell me he didn't have many days left every time we got together over the past fifteen years. I really believed he would live forever. I think I will miss him every day. But to live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Our family has experienced an awful lot of sadness these last few days. So, in order to bring ourselves some comfort, please find, below, the obituary my father really would have enjoyed. (Well - we hope so, but he can't do anything about it now)...

It is with great sadness, and a smidgen of relief, that the family of Aubrey Earle Maurice Hughes announces his death.

He died on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Credit Valley Hospital. Aubrey was born in Diligent River, Nova Scotia (on the Bay of Fundy - known to have the highest tides in the world!) on September 3, 1935 to Earle and Lola Hughes (nee Colpitts).

He is survived by his stunningly beautiful and beloved Italian wife Dorina (nee Libralesso) who he worshipped and to whom he was married for 58 years, and also survived by his MUCH MUCH younger sister, Connie (married to the ever patient Garry Brown of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia). He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Tracie Hughes, the smart one who says she looks way younger than the others (married to Samuel Ricchezza), Terri-Lynn Hughes, who thinks she is way younger than the others (married to Peter Burdon), and Cori Hughes who is actually way younger than the others and also knows how to blow things up (married to Les Neilson, who is also handy with explosives). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Daniela, Benjamin, Emily-Jane, Gabriela, Aubrey, Andrew and Ryan.

Aubrey was the consummate salesman and BS'er. He was the head of sales and marketing for Stanfield’s Ltd. for more than 30 years. He started his career as a sales rep for Atlantic Wholesalers in Nova Scotia and later worked for Canada Packers. He graduated from the Rex Dean General Store and School of Marketing in Diligent River and was voted least likely to succeed by his elementary school class when he declared he wanted to be a cowboy when he grew up. He was twice deemed a disappointment by his mother when he (1) failed to take a job as a snow plow driver and (2) married an Italian! Aubrey loved three things in life: his family, sales, and BS'ing. He will be sorely missed.

For the details regarding visitation and the memorial service, please visit www.turnerporter.ca. He is resting at the Neweduk Chapel in Mississauga.

We would love to see all his friends and adversaries there.

Love from Terri, Tracie, Cori and Dorina (the Grandkids and Sons-in-Law are MORTIFIED that we did this. We don't care.)

….and remember to never let the absence of truth ruin a good story.
