It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Apolonie "Pola" Sledziewski, peacefully on Friday, July 25th at the Dorothy Ley Hospice. Mom was a kind and gentle soul who accepted her diagnosis with incredible courage and strength, never complaining and never giving up. She was the "glue" that held our family together in both good times and bad, and her legacy will continue in all our hearts.

Pola's children Andy and his wife Terry, Elizabeth and her husband John, their children Adara, and Larissa along with her husband Sebastien, John and his wife Hilary will miss Pola dearly. Pola was a faithful and loving wife to her husband Feliks (d 1989), renowned pastry chef and decorated Warsaw Uprising Home Army hero, and daughter to Francois (d 1989) and Petronille (d 1999). Pola lived a full life with a cautious aire of joie de vivre and fondness for the finer things in life. Born in Marles-les-Mines, France, Pola endured the long journey to build the Sledziewski legacy in Canada.

Pola enjoyed her career at Simpsons and The Bay, and was a licensed hairdresser all her life. In retirement Pola traveled to Nova Scotia, British Columbia, St. Martin, St. Bart's, "the cottage" and particularly enjoyed her trip to France and the Côte d'Azur to attend her granddaughter's wedding.

Pola was happiest surrounded by her family. Sunday dinners were a family tradition with plenty of dessert. Pola has taught us well and we will love and honour her always.
