In Celebration of

Antonio Golias

March 16, 1927 -  October 28, 2016

Antonio was born in Patras, Greece to Nikolaos and his wife Eleftheria . He grew up in the small mountain village of Terpsithea. He came of age during WWII, defending his homeland during the Axis occupation of Greece from 1941-1944. Following the war he went to Patras where he met and fell in love with Nickolitsa. He pursued her relentlessly until she agreed to marry him. They were married early in 1952 and set off for a brave new life in Canada while their first born child was still a young infant. Arriving in Toronto in March of 1953, Antonio began to work for Olympic Bakery followed by a long career as a cook in the correctional system. He and Nickolitsa even owned a store and corner burger bar together. He saw all 5 children grow to create families of their own: Nick and his wife Donna, Gus and his wife Cathy, Rita and her husband Dave, Karol and her husband Carlo, and George and his wife Luisa. Many grandchildren followed and his home was always full of love; Jennifer (Glen), Cecelia (Warren), John (Mary Beth), Anthony (Rachel), Valerie (Neil), Angela (Chris), Matthew, Joshua, Nichole, Michael, Alexandra (Shane), and Daniella. Affectionately called Pappous, he lived to witness 7 great-grandchildren come into this world: Kyle, Harmony Anne, Claira, Cash, Arianna, Olive, and Santiago. On the night of October 27th, 2016, Antonio sat up with his son George late into the night talking as they often did. After saying their goodnights Antonio drifted off into a peaceful sleep. He was called to Heaven that night following a peaceful death void of suffering. To know Antonio is to understand that he wanted to spend his last moments in his own home. Antonio was 89 years old. We welcome all to join his family in remembering and honouring his full and rich life. Please see his funeral details below.

Pappous,
I will miss your laugh and your spunk whenever I would come and say "Hi pappous" and you would always reply "Hi Yia Yia" and laugh as if it was the first time you came up with that little joke. I will miss your piles of stolen produce bags, candies, and toothpicks. I will miss pretending to understand Greek near the end of your life when you rarely spoke English. Most of all, I will miss you for the rest of my life.

I have such fond memories of my Theo Tony standing outside St. Mary's church after mass, talking and smiling with his friends and family. My deepest condolences to my great aunt, my cousin's and their families.
