Peacefully, at St. Joseph Health Centre on Friday, March 25, 2016 in his 91st year. Loving husband of Lucy (Luus). Devoted father of Mary-Anna (David), Annette (Paul), Anthony (Angela), Jef (Monique), the late Lucia, and Philip (Heather). Treasured Opa of Monica (Steve), Adrian, Mathew (Nicole), Alexander, Christopher (Christiane), Elizabeth (Matthew), Michael, Rebecca, Alexandra, Marc Anthony, Lukas, Simone, Martin, Thomas and Liam. Treasured Great-Opa of Frederick, Coraline, Dahlia, Ayda, and Noah. Pre-deceased by his brothers Hein, Kees, and Joop, and survived by sisters Loes, Miep, Marijke, and Annet. Tony (Toon) was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on December 10, 1925. His enduring love for all things Canadian began during WWll when he was made the liaison officer for Stoottroepen Brabant Regiment to the Recce Sqdn of the 17th Duke of York Hussars 3rd Canadian Division. He came to Canada in 1951 after accepting a job with the T. Eaton Co. in the Oriental Carpet department at Eaton's College St. While at Eaton's he travelled regularly to Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Turkey, India, Pakistan, China and many other exotic locales as the buyer for oriental carpets. He left Eaton's in 1968 and started his own carpet importing business from which he retired at the age of 75. Tony never stopped travelling. He led a full and colourful life and leaves a great deal of memories for both family and friends alike. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church (1701 Bloor St W.), on April 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Runnymede Healthcare Centre.
