REST IN PEACE DADDY
Daddy, whenever you walked into the room, it was like a breath of fresh air. That smile and twinkle in your eye brightened everyone’s day and your loss leaves a huge gap in our lives. The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause us pain but you’re forever in our hearts until we meet again.
We are proud to be your children. When we think of integrity, honesty, generosity, moral courage and faith, we think of you. You always did the right thing, because it was right. You had the courage to face the truth and your determination was unwavering. You were no fool, you knew you were fighting a losing battle, yet you persevered and endured Brachytherapy, Radiation Therapy, countless appointments, x-rays, CAT scans, and not to mention the numerous injections meant to ease your pain at end of life. We lost track of how many times you sat patiently at the kitchen table while the visiting nurses drained your lungs. You were never alone daddy, your wife Maria; your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, your sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends walked with you every step of the way feeling your pain and praying for God’s mercy. On February 13th at 7:20pm, God saw that the road was getting rough and that the hills were hard to climb so he closed your weary eyelids and lead you to His home. A light has gone out of our lives, but our happy memories remain. We love you and your place in our hearts, no one else can ever fill.
During this difficult journey, we met so many beautiful people who never gave up on dad, cheering him on and giving him hope. A special thank you to Dr. Odea, the most amazing doctor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing; a big thank you to the St. Elizabeth and Paramed Health Care Nurses and the staff at the Walker Cancer Clinic who demonstrated the utmost professionalism and gentle kindness.
Momma, you are a rock. You worked tirelessly around-the-clock caring for dad, feeding him, bathing him and making sure he was comfortable and not in distress. You were his best gift, his angel of mercy, his box of jewels. So, when the sorrow overwhelms you, just pray and God will help you be strong and you will find the peace God alone can give you. No doubt, his passing will leave a huge hole in your heart and may the happy memories replace the sadness in your heart. We promised dad we would take care of you and we will not disappoint him.
Last but not least, I would like to thank and honour my unsung hero, my wonderful, caring and loving sister, Marylou Carvalho. Dad was so very lucky to have a daughter like you who doted on him, massaged his feet, gave him sips of water, and told him the truth when the truth needed to be told. May you take comfort in knowing there is one more angel looking over you.
