In Celebration of

Annie Carruthers

December 6, 1932 -  February 23, 2022

Nan Carruthers passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 89. She was born December 6, 1932 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Nan immigrated to Canada in 1957 with her sister Patricia, setting out like two pioneers to a new land. In Toronto she met her husband Thomas, who had recently emigrated from Belfast, Northern Ireland; they married in 1959.

Nan was loving mother to Anne, Scott (Tanya), Maureen, and Lee (Charles), and proud granny to wee Laurel Patricia. She was predeceased by husband Thomas, brother-in-law John, and siblings Isla and Jackie. She is survived by her sister Patricia, brother-in-law Ian; sister-in-law Margaret; nieces and nephews in Canada (Murray, Stephanie, David) and the U.K. (Kevin, Russell, Amanda, Mary, Sandy, Anne, Rose, Lorraine, Jacqueline, Patricia).

Nan was an avid reader of everything from cookbooks to detective fiction to psychology and philosophy. She loved jazz, a glass of red wine, and quality fruitcake. She had a lively mind, generous spirit, and a wonderful sense of humour, and will be missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to the staff at Wesburn Manor for their care and support.

HILMA & DENNIS READ (Parents of Tanya Read, Scott's partner)

Entered March 1, 2022 from MISSISSAUGA

We have very fond memories of Nan over the years. I really enjoyed having conversations with her as she, indeed, had a sharp mind and quick wit. She certainly was a good role model for many, not the least of whom was Scott and the rest of the family.
I was very pleased when she attended one of our Mississauga Festival Choir concerts.
Our most sincere condolences to Scott and his sisters at this time.
