In Celebration of

Annette Calich

November 4, 1929 -  September 1, 2024

In loving memory of Annette (nee Vincent) born November 4, 1929 in St. George Manitoba, who died at Dorothy Ley Hospice, Mississauga, Ontario on September 1, 2024 following a lengthy illness.

Annette (known to many as Anita) who was the loving wife of the late John Calich for 54 years and mother to her three devoted children and their spouses: Norma (Bill), Mike (Adriane) and Rick (Kathleen). She leaves behind her dear siblings Romeo (Barbara), Roger (Louise), Malvina and Eva (Lorne) out of a very large multigenerational French Canadian family. She took great pride in her roots and loved to share stories of her early upbringing in rural Manitoba.

Annette will be remembered as an immaculate homemaker who loved to garden, play games (which she usually won) and read. For years she travelled with her husband setting up and attending his pipe show displays at craft shows around the province.

Her five cherished grandchildren: Joel (Rhea), Dean (Sarah), Marta (Tony), Hannah (Guy) and Andrew will always remember, with fondness, the time and creative energy she put into many outings and sleepovers that occurred throughout their childhoods. Their grandma’s love was profound and unlimited. Her healthy longevity enabled her to know her seven greatgrandchildren, as well. Harrison, Claire, Oliver, Beth, Evie, Oscar and Albert all brought her such joy in her final years. Our mom passed away with a lot of love around her.

Our family would like to thank all the care providers at Bayshore Healthcare for their kindness and accessibility when needed, especially PSW Shantelle, nurses Olga, Hannah, and especially Sonya and Dr. Chopra who gave so much of their time and guided us through the stages of our mom’s passing with such compassion. Thanks also to the wonderful staff of her final home, The Beechwood Retirement home, especially nurses Mandeep and Rajbir for making it easy for us to care for her these last few months. A big thank you to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Dorothy Ley Hospice whose loving care at the end allowed her to die with dignity.

The family will be celebrating Annette’s life privately. If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Please share any memories, photos or condolences through this website. They will be greatly appreciated by her family.

I have happy memories of Auntie Annette hosting special Christmas Day activities and dinners.

When she babysat my sister Rhonda and me as a young child, I got up in the middle of the night to go to the washroom. As a ritual, I woke up my sister to go with me so I would not be scared. Because of Auntie Annette's compassion, she kindly redirected me and told me she would watch out so I could go by myself. This helped me build my first confidence level and I never had to bother my sister again, which I am sure she appreciated.

Norma, Micheal, and Rick (Ricky) your mom will be in my fond memories forever.

Love Anita

She was my favorite aunt, who I will miss dearly. I remember riding my bike from the beaches to see her in Port Credit in her house and she would always be happy to see me.

I have many fond memories of my sister and i growiing up on the farm but one stands out for me.It was early spring but there was tons of snow on the ground and I was anticipating a visit from Annette who had secured work in Wpg. and was coming home home for a short visit. As I was finishing my chores in the barn I heard the roar of the bus as it approached our farm and raced to the door and could see it had stopped at the entrance of our long driveway.Well I shouted and waved my arms as I raced to greet her and saw this women exiting from the bus and could not believe my eyes. It was my sister alright and she looked beautifull! She had a smart two piece suit on and was carrying a small case. To me, she might have been a celebrity visiting a home town. As I hugged her and smiled she says "what happened to your tooth" At that time I was wearing a partial plate and there was one tooth that was loose and had a habit of falling out and this was one of those times. It dawned on me that in my enthusiasm to greet her the darn thing may have
popped out there.I saw my sister to the house and raced back to the barn in the faint hope that I might find it! I could not believe it, there it was gleaming in the snow right at the barn entrance. We sure had a good laugh about that.
Your mom has been a constant throughout mylife and I shall miss her dearly.
Norma, Mickael,Rick and extendent family ou r deepest condolences.
She was so proud of all of you, and rightly so.Love,Uncle romeo and Auntie Barb.
