In Celebration of
Andrea Lanzarotta
January 21, 1936 -
March 15, 2017
For those of you who knew Andrea you are so lucky. For those of you who don't, I can only wish you have someone in your life as great as him. Andrea was one of a kind, the greatest kind. His heart better than gold, his personality like no other. He was larger than life and when he walked into a room you could feel that energy. He always had a way to make everyone smile and laugh and never wanted to see anyone hurting or sad. He would make friends with anyone and everyone including the animals, especially our pet dogs. They loved Andrea as much as he loved them, for more reasons than just him always bringing them treats every time he visited. He always referred to them as his grandkids too and treated them like nothing less.
Andrea’s passion was his garden, and he could make a flower grow from nothing. He said the trick was to talk to them. On top of that I think it was the positive energy his soul would illuminate. The plants felt it and grew from his love and dedication. At 80 years old he was still outside prepping his garden for the summer months and hand planting each and every one of them himself. One day his neighbor caught him carrying a bag of stones to finish up the side of his house - I still can't believe that,at 80! Andrea wasn't one to give up and his perseverance and motivation was reflected even up to his last breath. None of us could have ever imagined he would be in the hospital for almost 10 months. Even while in that hospital bed, he would try to make us laugh and if we asked him if he was okay he would always nod 'yes' because he never wanted anyone to worry about him. And although it was a living hell every time we walked through those doors, we are so blessed to have been able to spend that time with him. Andrea is a fighter, he is a champ and he is our hero. They say our bodies are just a shell for our souls and I know that just because he is no longer here with us in this physical world, his soul is shining the brightest in heaven surrounded by thousands of flowers, sipping his espresso and eating a cannoli. He wouldn't want us to be sad, he's probably yelling at all of us right now to stop crying and to be happy! I know this journey without him is going to be one of the hardest, but we have the most wonderful family and we will support each other and get through this. We've come this far together and we will continue to fight through the hard times and be there for one another.
Dad, you have been the most amazing father in law anyone could ask for. I fell in love with you the first day I met you. I will always be your Calabrisella girl forever. Watch over Mom, and all of your kids and your beautiful grandkids, who love and miss you so very much. Please hug my baby girl Julia and enjoy your new life in heaven. Love you so very much!! xo
