In Celebration of

Alma Miike

November 30, 1926 -  December 5, 2016

With great sadness we announce, Alma Sumiko Miike, peacefully passed away on Monday December 5th, with her family by her side. After a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease she is now at peace, and happily hitting the links beyond the Pearly Gates. She leaves her loving and devoted husband of 64 years Saburo "Sub", Vernon and Linda (Patrick) Macdonald. She will be missed by her Grandchildren Alex, Evan, Leah, Kayla, and four-legged Baily. She is survived by her sister Nellie Kawahara, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Hidenosuke and Hatsuyo Kawano, brother Melvan and sister Grace Ito. Born on Coldstream Ranch (near Vernon), BC on November 30th 1926, she reached the impressive age of 90. She was the youngest of 4 siblings. Mom was devoted to her family, her golf game, and took great pride in her job as the Secretary to the Treasurer of the City of Etobicoke before retiring in 1991. In her late 40's she rediscovered skiing, then took up golf in her 50's and never looked back. She enjoyed many years of travelling, 10 pin bowling and golfing with Dad, and celebrated 2 Hole in Ones! She will be remembered for her generosity, perfectly rolled sushi, Jaconi cookies, strong will and beautiful smile. Many thanks to family, friends, Dechen, Mabel, and Dr Bradley Sarak of 4L at St Joe's for taking care of Mom and for their support. Special thanks to Sandy for her support and guidance, over and above, for the past few weeks. We respectfully decline Koden. Donations made to the Parkinson Society of Canada, Momiji Health Care Society, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC), or Salvation Army would be appreciated. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2057 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, from 2-5pm on Sunday. Service of remembrance will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016, at 2 p.m.

Alma was like a second mother to me growing up in the Miike household.
Those school years were filled with wonderful memories that I will always cherish.
Although we were across the country her love and spirit was always with us as our family grew and those memories will still be with us all.

Love Chris, Gail Stacy, Kevin, Holly, Brooklyn, Stella, Spencer and Vana.
