<div itemprop="description">Peacefully at the Port Credit Residences in Mississauga, on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the age of 91. Beloved husband of the late Nan. Loving father of Anne and Hugh. Dear brother of the late Margaret.<br /><br />Allen became a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario in 1946, after graduating from the &ldquo;Red Schoolhouse&rdquo; (U of T School of Practical Science) in Civil Engineering. In 1948 he began a long and distinguished career with Ontario Hydro. In 1981 he was awarded The Engineering Medal for &ldquo;achievements in engineering significantly above the normally high standards of the profession.&rdquo; <br /><br />Upon retirement from Hydro in 1982 Allen was kept busy as a private consult by businesses who sought to utilize his skills and expertise. This continued until age 90, at which time he chose to resign from Chairmanship of the boards upon which he was serving. <br /><br />Allen was very community-minded, and applied his many talents to various organizations and committees including: Mississauga Hospital (Director), Ontario Hospitals Association (Director), Fairways Condominium Board ( Director/ Member), Probus Club of Mississauga South (Charter Member), Mississauga Choral Society (Director), First United Church Choir.<br /><br />The family thank the staff from the Trillium and Queensway hospitals, and from Port Credit Residences for their kindness, caring and support.<br />Allen had a long and wonderful life, and his children are grateful for their memories of shared experiences. &ldquo;To live in hearts left behind is not to die&rdquo;.<br /><br />Friends may call at the Turner &amp; Porter &ldquo;Peel&rdquo; Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. QEW) on Friday, from 6-9p.m. Memorial service will be held at First United Church, 151 Lakeshore Rd.
