In Celebration of

Alison Evelyn Hanson

September 12, 1925 -  November 28, 2023

Peacefully, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Wyndham Manor, at the age of 98.

Wife of the late Russell. Mother of Elizabeth (Peter), Richard, Patty (Stephen), Terry and Jamie (Carol). Grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 7.

Predeceased by her parents, Frederick George Robins and Alice Priscilla Kett, twin sister, Margaret, and sister Joyce. Survived by her brother, Ross.

Alison was born in Montreal on September 12, 1925, 10 minutes after Margaret. As her father struggled to raise a young family of 4 children through the Great Depression and WWII, they were required to move frequently in search of work in the field of mechanical engineering. Alison counted 21 moves by the time she was 19, including stops in St. Catharines, Arvida, Quebec, and Toronto.

It was a privilege for her to attend McGill University for a year before economic realities required that she train for more immediate employment as a legal secretary. Starting in 1948, she worked for a prestigious 12-person law firm – the largest in Toronto at that time!

Alison and Russ were married on September 9, 1950, and, in addition to raising their 5 children, enjoyed years together of square dancing, international travel, and camping every summer at Sandbanks Provincial Park. For decades, they hosted multiple large family gatherings each year that often included over 20 family members spanning 4 generations. She loved her dogs and her garden and there were very few birthdays and anniversaries of friends and extended family that she did not remember. She was very proud of the Award of Recognition she received from the Peel Board of Education commemorating her 27 years of service as a lunchroom monitor for 3 separate primary schools.

Alison’s family would like to thank the staff and residents of Wyndham Manor Long-Term Care Centre in Oakville for the excellent and compassionate care she received, and the companionship she enjoyed, during her almost two and half years of residence.
Special thanks also goes to the wonderful companions from Acclaim Health who filled her hours with friendship and ensured she was not alone when her family could not be with her.

A Funeral Service will be held at Christ First United, 1700 Mazo Crescent, Mississauga, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 3 pm. Reception to follow. A private family interment will take place.

If desired, remembrances may be made to the Humane Society or International Fund for Animal Welfare.

We met Alison and Russ through the FM Dinner Club at our church. That group helped us to meet and make friends in the community when we moved here 40 years ago. I’ve had some nice visits with Alison over the past year, as my husband too is in Bronte House at Wyndham. My thoughts and prayers to your family.

I will never forget your mom! Her outstanding memory for significant dates, including those of the Royal Family was amazing. Her love for her dogs and how she always had rescues tells of her love for animals. I can always remember her briskly walking up Clarkson Road with a purpose! She loved her family dearly and will be sorely missed. What a legacy she has left in all of you. May you all be comforted as you adjust to this new reality. You all did her proud!
