In Celebration of

Albert Gregory Lyjak

May 20, 1952 -  August 2, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our cherished Husband, Father and Dziadzi, Albert Lyjak, who left us peacefully at home on August 2, 2024, just nine days shy of his 51st wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Alice (née Sachanowicz).

Albert was born on May 20, 1952, in Lublin, Poland, to Mariana (née Miroslaw) and Stefan Lyjak. As a child, he, and his family, including his siblings Eva (deceased), Elizabeth, Jeannie (deceased), and Rick, relocated to Canada and settled in the west end of Toronto, where he created many cherished and heartfelt memories.

Albert took immense pride in his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He will be deeply missed by his three daughters: Annette Lyjak, Basia Lyjak, and Vanessa Jovancic (née Lyjak) (Aleks), as well as his grandchildren: Lauren, Ava, Nathan, and Mila. Albert cherished watching our family interactions and loved spending time with everyone at our many large gatherings.

Albert's circle of friends was close-knit, encompassing those from his childhood in Parkdale, his career as an analyst at the Toronto Transit Commission, and the many connections he and our dear mother developed over the years. He particularly cherished traveling the world with Alice and their close group of friends.

Known for his love, loyalty, fortitude, intelligence, and dry sense of humor, Albert’s impact was profound for those who knew him well. He imparted wisdom through his passions for literature, music, nature, history, geography, economics, politics, world events, and the weather. Albert's teachings also embraced the art of timing, the value of maintaining composure, and the importance of safeguarding cherished relationships.

Family was of utmost importance to Albert, and he deeply valued the support and love from everyone around him.

In his memory, the family invites those who wish to honor him to consider a donation to Trillium Health Partners.

Our family is heartbroken from this unexpected loss 💔

One day your dad won't call you anymore,
One day you will wish he had lived more days to enjoy your time with him.
One day he’ll  stop telling you to stop with your jokes.
One day he’ll stop giving you the advices he thinks is right for you.
One day you will find the house where he was always waiting for you in his chair watching CNN
One day his voice will no longer be heard.
One day, only memories will remain.
Time flies and waits for Nothing and nobody.
And on that day, you will feel a void so great that nothing and no one can fill.

I miss you and love you so much dad 💔
