In Celebration of

Adrian Herschell

August 24, 1951 -  September 21, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Adrian Herschell, at the age of 66, on September 21, 2017, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. It was through his unwavering strength, resolve, and positive outlook, even during the last moments, that those who love him now gather strength. He was determined not to let cancer control his situation, only his body. The only thing stronger than his determination was his love for his family and friends. While even in the most dire of circumstances he could be heard saying “I’m okay, how are you?” showing his compassion and love towards everyone that was lucky enough to be touched by such a great man.

He was an astute business consultant and founding partner of Plutus Consulting Group, together with friend John Holland. Adrian was devoted to his numerous long-term clients, many of whom became personal friends. Adrian has been in senior management positions in large public corporations and small family-owned businesses for over 30 years. During this time, he was known and well respected in the business world as someone who could help turn around a struggling company. It was his commitment to understanding not just the business but also the people and the life of the company that truly allowed him to help steer it in the right direction. It was these qualities, consistent throughout his personal and professional life that drew people to him and made lifelong relationships with many people he met.

On top of being an amazing Father to his children, he was also a mentor to many of the other young adults in his life. He took pride in sharing his wisdom and pure brilliance with anyone that would reach out to him. While his professional expertise in business and finance was often used by many that knew him, he was also a profound calming voice during any crisis.

Adrian is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of more than 30 years, Cathy. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his three children, Grant (Brandee Gale), Scott (Maggie Hall), and Erin (Chris Muhl), and his brother Brian. Adrian was the proud Papa to Kailey and Taylor Herschell. Adrian also had a close circle of lifelong friends that he considered family.

He is predeceased by his parents.

Adrian was a keen sports enthusiast. He would often say the most beautiful spots to spend a day were either at the golf course or on a ski hill. Aside from skiing and golfing, he was an avid hockey player on several teams for many years, including with his sons. Sharing these activities was where he was the happiest, whether it was creating the “Herschell line” in hockey with his sons or competing in the Herschell annual golf tournament where he won more often than not. Adrian might have been the “old guy” on the team and while he may not have been able to skate as fast or hit it as long as some of the young guys, any team was lucky to have him. Adrian was a committed baseball fan and enjoyed spending time at the Skydome cheering on his beloved Blue Jays.

Special thanks to the nurses and doctors in the Oncology unit at Trillium Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to www.pancreaticcancercanada.ca or the charity of your choice.

I had known Adrian for approximately 7 years as part of my involvement in Everest Academy. We first met in the hallway and quickly understood we would work together well in supporting the growth of this new private school. Over those years, Adrian and I spent a lot of time together both in person and on the phone exploring the many business challenges Everest was facing -- Adrian was always gracious with his time, thoughtful with his answers and always willing to help in any way that he could.

On behalf of myself, my wife Colleen and all of the Everest family, we offer our condolences to the Herschell family.
