It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Adolfas Sekonis, on April 21, 2020 at Labdara Lithuania Nursing Home, just a few months shy of his 100th birthday. Predeceased by the love of his life Tekle, in 2005. He leaves behind a great nephew Giedrius (Vida) Skrebutenas, daughter Lina; and a lot of family and friends in both Canada and Lithuania.
Adolfas was born in 1920 in a small village near Ignalina, Lithuania. At the age of 25, during World War II, Adolfas came to Canada from Germany. He came to Halifax and then to Sudbury to work in the mines. There he met his wife, Tekle. They both decided to work in the same profession, as hairdressers and moved to Toronto. During their retirement, they spent all their time at their home in Wasaga Beach and retreated to Florida during the cold winters.
The funeral will be limited to a small group of family members. Interment will take place at St. John’s Lithuanian Cemetery in Mississauga. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Labdara, who took professional care of Adolfas during his last year of life. In lieu of flowers, donations to Labdara or to the Lithuanian Martyrs’ Church would be greatly appreciated.
